If your thermostat is working properly but you still don’t have cool air, look for your system’s air filter, turn it off, remove the filter, and inspect. If, after ensuring that you have a clean air filter, your central air conditioner still does not cool your house, you may need to look a little deeper to find the source of the problem.
When your air conditioner fails and the temperature in your home rises, you will think, “How bad is this going to be?” To alleviate some of your concerns, here are a few of the more common issues we see with ac units in the Henderson community.
The refrigerant, which is a chemical used in your air conditioner to cool the air in your home, is found in the pipes that link the indoor and outdoor equipment.
A leak in the device will cause the ac unit to overheat. It is important that we locate and repair the leak. Then, make sure to replenish the refrigerant quantities that were depleted.
AC coils become very cold and develop condensation, similar to the condensation that forms on the outside of a cold glass of water.
Air conditioners are constructed with drain pans and piping to help condensation flow away from the device. When there is a clog, it may trigger a variety of issues. It is likely that you will be exposed to high levels of humidity. Alternatively, the device can not turn on because the drain pan is complete.
Make no mistake: the compressor is the most important component of your air conditioning system. Nothing else in the system will work properly if it is not present. Compressor repairs can also be the most difficult. That is why most homeowners despise hearing anything about compressor issues.
A compressor, coils, and one or more fans are housed in the condensing machine, which is the large metal box outside your home.
These components are critical for ensuring that your air conditioner operates correctly and as planned. The outdoor fan, in particular, aids in cooling the refrigerant and pushing hot air away from your machine. A problem with the motor, such as bent blades, will prevent your machine from working and cause it to fail to perform.
When warm indoor air moves through the evaporator coil, heat energy and humidity are separated from the air. These will occasionally need to be replaced.
An evaporator coil is standard in most central air conditioning systems. To see if there is any apparent harm, locate the evaporator coil in its own cabinet, outside the furnace. If, in reality, your indoor unit is a furnace. However, if the indoor device is a fan coil, the evaporator coil is housed inside the fan coil cabinet.
Heat pumps, like air conditioners, are prone to the same problems in a cooling system. So you want to be certain they are not filthy. Often, make sure the coils aren’t clogged or frozen. Also, make sure there are no apparent refrigerant leaks or compressor issues.
We suggest first testing your thermostat settings and the air filter. If everything checks out fine and you’re still sweating inside and just need some relief, give our team a call at 702-450-6488 right away so we can help you figure out what’s wrong.
It’s possible that it’s your outdoor condenser machine. When your air conditioner is working but not dropping the temperature inside, this is a positive sign. The first thing to check is whether the condenser coil is blocked or clogged.
The condenser unit’s exterior features a large outdoor coil that wraps around the unit.
As it seeks to extract heat energy from your house, the condenser fan pulls air into the outdoor device via the condenser coil, along with dirt, grass, and other airborne debris. In the worst-case situation, the machine will shut down completely or the compressor will be damaged as a result of having to operate too hard. But most of the time, it’s just a clogged coil that won’t cool the air and runs inefficiently.
Your first step might be to gently rinse the coil with a hose or vacuum out any debris with a brush attachment. If that doesn’t work, it might be time to seek professional assistance.
Depending on your setup, an air filter might be placed in or near the indoor air handler. The filter is designed to trap dirt, dust, and other airborne particles until they reach the air handler, keeping the components within the device clean and functioning properly.
As an added bonus, it will help keep the air in your home clean. A clogged air filter can obstruct airflow and reduce cooling in your home.
To see if it’s the air filter, locate it, switch off the device, and remove and inspect the filter. If it’s clean and your thermostat is working properly, it’s most likely a larger issue.
Single stage thermostats are available in a number of configurations. Programmable single-stage thermostats allow you to build one or more cooling system programs.
Upgrading your thermostat will also save you money and extend the life of your home’s HVAC system.
Multiple sources of heated or cooled air are used in multi-stage systems. As an example, consider a heating system that uses both a furnace and a solar panel to provide heat. Your thermostat will need to be set up in a multi-stage mode.
